Remote IT Support and Automation for Australian Small Businesses
TechPit Solutions is a remote IT team for small and mid-sized businesses across Australia. We look after help desk requests, Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, device management, backups, cyber security and automation of the admin that clogs up your week.
We are a fully remote team, and we agree support hours that suit your business day before we start. An accounting firm in Sydney, a practice in Melbourne, a tradie business in Brisbane and a mining services firm in Perth each have those hours and our response times set out in their service agreement.
Australian businesses are being asked harder security questions by insurers, customers and government. We help you put practical controls in place, often using the ASD Essential Eight as the yardstick.

Doing business in Australia
What growing businesses in Australia tell us they need
Essential Eight as the benchmark
Insurers, larger customers and government buyers increasingly ask Australian suppliers where they sit on the Essential Eight maturity model. Small businesses that have never measured themselves find this hard to answer.
Distance and three time zones
With head offices in Sydney or Melbourne and operations in WA, many businesses have staff two or three hours apart, and regional sites far from any IT provider. Remote support removes the travel from routine fixes.
Notifiable Data Breaches scheme
Covered businesses must notify the OAIC and affected people about eligible breaches. Without logs and a plan, it is difficult to work out what was accessed in time to make that call.
Daylight saving confusion
NSW, Victoria, the ACT, Tasmania and South Australia shift their clocks in summer while Queensland, WA and the NT do not. Scheduling maintenance windows and meetings needs care for teams across states.

Typical engagements
What working together looks like in Australia
Essential Eight uplift
What a typical engagement looks like: a maturity assessment against each strategy, then a staged plan that starts with MFA, patching and backups and moves on to admin privilege restrictions and macro controls.
Remote support for regional sites
For a business with a city office and regional depots, we manage laptops, tablets and phones remotely, schedule updates outside working hours and give field staff one place to raise problems.
Job and invoicing automation
We connect booking forms, job management software and Xero so quotes, jobs and invoices move through without double handling, with alerts when something stalls.
Breach-response preparation
We set up central logging, define who does what in an incident, and run a tabletop walkthrough so your team knows how it would assess a suspected breach under the NDB scheme.
Data protection
Privacy and security rules in Australia
Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles
The Privacy Act generally covers businesses with annual turnover above A$3 million, plus some smaller ones such as health service providers and businesses that trade in personal information. The 13 Australian Privacy Principles set rules on collecting, using, disclosing and securing personal information; APP 11 requires reasonable steps to protect it from misuse, loss and unauthorised access.
How we help: We map where personal information is held, apply role-based access and MFA, encrypt devices and backups, and remove data you no longer need to keep. Whether the Act applies to you, and how, is a question for your legal adviser.
Official source ↗Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme
Organisations covered by the Privacy Act must notify affected individuals and the OAIC when a data breach is likely to result in serious harm. If a breach is only suspected, the organisation must assess it quickly, within 30 days.
How we help: We set up logging and alerting so incidents are spotted early, write a breach-response runbook with clear roles, and help gather the technical facts, such as what was accessed and when, that your team needs to assess a breach.
Official source ↗ASD Essential Eight
The Australian Signals Directorate's Essential Eight is a set of mitigation strategies: application control, patching applications, Microsoft Office macro settings, user application hardening, restricting administrative privileges, patching operating systems, multi-factor authentication and regular backups. It is mandatory for many federal agencies and widely used as a benchmark by private businesses, insurers and larger customers.
How we help: We assess your current maturity against the eight strategies, then roll out controls in a sensible order, typically MFA, patching and backups first, followed by admin-rights restrictions, macro settings and application control.

FAQ
Questions from businesses in Australia
How does a remote team work with the Australian working day?
We agree support hours that suit your business day before we start, taking account of early starts on the east coast and later finishes in Perth. Those hours and our response times are set out in your service agreement, so you know when to expect help.
Is our data stored in Australia?
Your data sits in your own tenants and cloud accounts, and we can configure them to use Australian regions such as AWS ap-southeast-2 in Sydney or Azure Australia East. Our team connects remotely, and we document that overseas access so it can be covered in your privacy policy.
What currency do you invoice in?
All our plans are priced and invoiced in US dollars (USD), including for Australian clients.
Can you help us with the Essential Eight?
We can assess where you sit against each strategy and implement the controls that move you up a maturity level. We do not issue certifications, as the Essential Eight is a framework rather than a certificate.
What happens if we have a data breach?
We contain the technical incident, preserve logs and work out what was affected, then hand those facts to you so you can decide whether the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires a notification.
Can you support Sydney and Melbourne business hours?
We agree support hours with you before we start, set in AEST or AEDT for Sydney and Melbourne, with Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth staff in mind where you have them. Those hours and our response times are set out in your service agreement. We have no Australian office; IT support for small businesses here is remote, by email, WhatsApp and scheduled video calls.
Does a small business have to follow the Essential Eight?
Generally no. The Essential Eight is mandatory for many federal government agencies, not for private small businesses. In practice insurers, larger customers and government buyers use it as a benchmark, so being able to say where you sit helps. We start with the strategies that give a small business the most protection, usually MFA, patching and backups, and your adviser can confirm any contractual requirement that applies to you.
