Network Design & Setup

Office networks, Wi-Fi, firewalls and VPNs planned properly, documented clearly and supported after launch.

Your network carries every email, video call, card payment and file your team touches. When it is slow, patchy or poorly secured, everything else suffers, and the cause is often hard to see. Most small business networks grow one router and one extension cable at a time, until nobody is sure how it all fits together.

We design and set up business networks that are fast, reliable and secure, and that make sense on paper. That covers wired and wireless coverage, firewalls, guest access, VPNs for remote staff, and separating devices like printers, cameras and point-of-sale terminals from the computers that hold your data.

Much of the planning, configuration and ongoing management happens remotely. Where on-site work is needed, such as running cable or mounting access points, we work with your local installer or a technician you trust and guide the job step by step, so you get a professional result wherever your office is.

In short

What is included in network design and setup for an office?

Network design and setup for an office covers wired and wireless coverage, firewalls, guest access, VPNs for remote staff, and separate networks for devices such as printers, cameras, and card terminals. TechPit Solutions plans and configures the network remotely, guides a local installer through any cabling or mounting, and hands over a network diagram, device list, and admin details.

  • Best for businesses opening or moving offices, teams with unreliable Wi-Fi, and owners who inherited a network nobody documented.
  • Planned and configured remotely after a free consultation and network assessment, with on-site cabling handled by your local installer under our guidance.

Who this is for

  • Businesses opening a new office or moving to a new space
  • Growing teams whose Wi-Fi and internet can no longer keep up
  • Owners who inherited a network nobody has documented
  • Companies with remote or hybrid staff who need secure access to office systems
  • Retail, clinics and hospitality businesses running card terminals, cameras and guest Wi-Fi on one connection

Problems we fix

  • Wi-Fi drops out in parts of the office or slows to a crawl at busy times
  • Staff, guests and smart devices all share one flat network with no separation
  • The router still uses its default admin password and old firmware
  • Remote staff connect to office files in ways that are slow or unsafe
  • Nobody knows which device does what, so every fault turns into guesswork

What's included

What our Network Design & Setup service includes

  • Network assessment

We review your current equipment, internet connection, layout and how your team works, then list the gaps that matter most and what to fix first.

  • Network design and equipment plan

A clear plan covering routers, switches, access points and cabling, with equipment recommendations that match your budget and room to grow.

  • Firewall and segmentation

Firewall rules, separate networks (VLANs) for staff, guests and devices, and changed default credentials so one weak device cannot expose everything.

  • Wi-Fi coverage and tuning

Access point placement, channel and power settings, and roaming configured so people can move around the building without dropping calls.

  • Secure remote access

VPN or zero-trust remote access for staff who work from home or travel, with access limited to the systems each person actually needs.

  • Documentation and handover

A network diagram, device list, IP plan and admin details stored securely, so you or any future technician can understand the setup quickly.

Benefits

Why it's worth doing properly

  • Fewer interruptions

A properly planned network cuts down on dropouts and slowdowns, so calls, payments and cloud apps keep working when you need them.

  • Better security by design

Separating guests and devices from business systems and locking down admin access reduces the ways an attacker can get in or move around.

  • Room to grow

We plan for more people, more devices and possibly a second site, so you are not replacing equipment every time the team expands.

  • Faster troubleshooting

With clear documentation and remote monitoring, problems can be traced and fixed quickly instead of starting from scratch each time.

Process

How the work runs

  1. STEP 01

    Assess

We look at your space, current equipment, internet service and how people work, and agree on priorities and budget with you.

  2. STEP 02

    Design

We produce a network plan with equipment choices, layout, security zones and remote access, and walk you through it before anything is bought.

  3. STEP 03

    Implement

We configure equipment, coordinate any on-site installation, migrate devices with minimal downtime and test coverage, speed and security.

  4. STEP 04

    Monitor

Network monitoring runs continuously and raises alerts for our team, and we apply firmware updates and handle support requests during agreed support hours when something needs attention.

Tools we commonly work with

  • Ubiquiti UniFi
  • Cisco Meraki
  • Fortinet FortiGate
  • pfSense
  • MikroTik
  • TP-Link Omada
  • WireGuard

FAQ

Network Design & Setup: common questions

Can you set up a network if you are not on site?

Yes. We handle the design, equipment configuration and testing remotely. For physical work such as running cable or mounting access points, we work alongside a local electrician, installer or member of your team and guide them through each step. Many devices can be pre-configured before they arrive, so on-site work is mostly plugging in and confirming everything connects as planned.

Do we need to replace all of our existing equipment?

Not necessarily. We start by checking what you already have. Equipment that is still supported by the manufacturer and suitable for your size can often be reconfigured and kept. We only recommend replacements where hardware is out of date, no longer receives security updates, or simply cannot handle the number of people and devices you have now.

How much does network setup cost?

Cost depends on the size of your space, the number of users and devices, whether you need new equipment, how much cabling is involved and whether you want ongoing monitoring. A small office reconfiguration is a very different job from a multi-floor build-out. Book a free consultation and we will look at your situation and give you a clear quote before any work starts.

What is network segmentation and do small businesses need it?

Segmentation means splitting your network into separate zones, for example staff computers, guest Wi-Fi, printers and cameras. If a guest device or a cheap smart camera is compromised, it cannot easily reach your business files. It is not just for large companies. Most modern business routers support it, and it is one of the most practical security improvements a small office can make.

Can you help remote staff connect securely to the office?

Yes. We set up a VPN or a zero-trust access tool so remote staff can reach office systems over an encrypted connection. We limit each person's access to what they need, require strong sign-in with multi-factor authentication where possible, and document how to add or remove users so access stays under control as people join or leave.

What happens after the network is installed?

You get full documentation and admin access. If you choose ongoing support, network monitoring runs continuously and raises alerts for our team, we keep firmware updated, and we handle changes such as adding new staff or devices. Every request is logged, tracked and owned by a named person, and because the network is documented, we can usually pinpoint the cause of a problem quickly.
