Custom Web Apps, ERP & Field Management Systems

Off-the-shelf software works until it does not. Many growing businesses end up running on a patchwork of spreadsheets, a generic tool that only covers half the job, and manual workarounds that one person understands. A custom web app brings that work into one system designed around your process, your terminology, and your reports.

We build two kinds of system most often. ERP-style apps handle inventory, purchasing, quotes, invoicing, and reporting in one place, with the right permissions for each role. Field management systems handle job scheduling, technician dispatch, on-site checklists, photos, signatures, and job reports, with a mobile-friendly interface that works on a phone in a customer's driveway. Both connect to the tools you keep, such as accounting software, CRMs, and email.

We use a modern, widely supported stack, including Next.js, Node.js, and PostgreSQL, hosted on AWS, Azure, or a VPS depending on your needs. You own the code, the data, and the hosting accounts, and everything is documented, so you are never locked in to us. We build in stages, putting a working version in your team's hands early and improving it based on real use.

In short

What is a custom web app?

A custom web app is software built around one business's own process, replacing spreadsheets and manual workarounds with a single system. TechPit Solutions most often builds ERP-style apps for inventory, purchasing, quotes, invoicing, and reporting, and field management systems for job scheduling, technician dispatch, mobile checklists, photos, and signatures. The client owns the code, the data, and the hosting accounts.

  • Best for businesses that have outgrown spreadsheets, and trades or maintenance companies that dispatch technicians to customer sites.
  • Built remotely in stages after a free consultation and discovery, with a working first version delivered early and features added from real use.

Who this is for

  • Businesses running core operations on spreadsheets that have outgrown them
  • Trades, maintenance, and building services companies that dispatch technicians to sites
  • Distributors and small manufacturers needing inventory, orders, and invoicing in one place
  • Companies paying for several tools that each cover part of a process
  • Owners who want software built around their process, with full ownership of the code

Problems we fix

  • Critical data lives in spreadsheets that break, conflict, and depend on one person
  • Off-the-shelf tools force workarounds or charge for features you will never use
  • Technicians phone the office for job details and fill in paper reports that are retyped later
  • Stock levels, orders, and invoices do not match because they live in different systems
  • Management reports take days to put together by hand

What's included

What our Custom Web Apps service includes

  • Discovery and requirements

We work with the people who will use the system to map processes, roles, data, and reports, and agree a clear first version and a roadmap for what comes later.

  • ERP modules

We build modules for inventory, purchasing, quotes, orders, invoicing, and customer records, with role-based permissions and an audit trail of changes.

  • Field management features

We build job scheduling, dispatch boards, technician assignment, mobile job sheets, checklists, photos, signatures, and automatic job reports for customers.

  • Integrations

We connect the app to accounting software such as Xero or QuickBooks, your CRM, email, SMS, maps, and payment providers through their APIs.

  • Reporting and dashboards

We add dashboards and exportable reports on sales, stock, jobs, technician performance, and other measures you care about.

  • Hosting, documentation, and handover

We deploy to AWS, Azure, or a VPS with backups, monitoring, and security updates, and hand over source code, documentation, and admin access.

Benefits

Why it's worth doing properly

  • Software that fits your process

The system follows how your business actually works, so staff spend less time on workarounds and duplicate entry.

  • One source of truth

Stock, orders, jobs, and invoices live in one database, so everyone works from the same up-to-date information.

  • Faster work in the field

Technicians get job details on their phone and complete reports on site, so jobs can be invoiced sooner.

  • You own it

You keep the code, data, and hosting accounts, with documentation that lets any competent developer maintain it.

Process

How the work runs

  1. STEP 01

    Assess your operations

We study your current tools, spreadsheets, and processes, interview the people involved, and define the problems the app must solve first.

  2. STEP 02

    Design the app

We design the data model, screens, roles, and integrations, and share clickable mockups so your team can try the flow before we build it.

  3. STEP 03

    Build in stages

We develop the first version, test it with real data and users, deploy it, and then add features in short, planned stages.

  4. STEP 04

    Monitor and support

We monitor uptime, errors, and backups, apply updates, and keep improving the app based on how your team uses it.

FAQ

Custom Web Apps: common questions

Should we build custom software or buy an existing tool?

If an existing tool fits your process well at a reasonable cost, buying is usually the better choice. Custom software makes sense when your process is a real advantage, when off-the-shelf tools need heavy workarounds, or when you are paying for several tools that each cover part of the job. We will give you an honest view during discovery, including when not to build.

Do we own the code?

Yes. You own the source code, the database, and the hosting and domain accounts. We work in a code repository you control and provide documentation, so you can continue with us, bring development in house, or hand it to another developer.

Will the app work on phones for our technicians?

Yes. Field management screens are designed mobile-first, so technicians can view jobs, update statuses, complete checklists, take photos, and capture signatures on a phone or tablet. Where needed, we can make it installable on the home screen and handle patchy signal for key tasks.

Where will the app be hosted?

It depends on your needs. AWS and Azure suit businesses that want managed databases, scaling, and enterprise features. A VPS can suit smaller apps with steady usage. We set up backups, monitoring, and security updates in every case, and the hosting account is in your name.

How long does it take to build?

It depends on the scope. We usually aim to deliver a working first version covering the most important workflow, then add features in stages. That gets the system into real use sooner and keeps the build guided by feedback. We agree a realistic timeline and milestones after discovery.

How much does a custom web app cost?

Cost depends on the number of features and user roles, integrations, data migration, and design requirements, plus ongoing hosting and support. Hosting fees are separate. Book a free consultation and we will scope a first version and give you a clear quote.
