# Workflow automation

> Workflow automation is the use of software to carry out a repeatable sequence of business steps, such as moving data between apps, sending notifications, or creating records, automatically whenever a defined trigger occurs.

Also called: business process automation, task automation, no-code automation, process automation.

Every automation has a trigger and one or more actions. The trigger is an event, such as a form submission, a new email, a payment, or a scheduled time. The actions follow rules: create the contact in the CRM, send a confirmation, notify the right person, update a spreadsheet. Platforms such as n8n, Zapier, and Make connect the apps through their APIs and webhooks.

Small teams lose hours to copying information between systems, chasing approvals, and sending the same messages. Automating those steps removes the delay and the typing errors, and it makes sure the step happens every time instead of when someone remembers. The best candidates are tasks that are frequent, follow clear rules, and do not need judgment.

Automating a messy process only produces mistakes faster, so map and simplify the steps first. Every automation needs an owner, documentation, and alerts for when it fails, because a silent failure can go unnoticed for weeks. Keep a person in the loop for decisions involving money or exceptions. We build and monitor workflow automations on the tools a business already uses.
