# IT annual maintenance contract (AMC)

> An IT annual maintenance contract (AMC) is a yearly agreement in which a provider maintains and supports a company's computers, servers, and network for a fixed fee, usually covering a listed set of equipment.

Also called: IT AMC, annual maintenance contract, computer AMC, IT maintenance contract.

An AMC is usually built around a list of equipment: so many PCs, servers, printers, and network devices. The provider agrees to keep that equipment working for the year, typically through scheduled preventive visits plus call-outs or remote sessions when something fails. Some contracts cover labor only, while comprehensive ones also include replacement parts. Anything outside the listed scope is billed separately.

Compared with a per-user managed IT plan, an AMC tends to focus on equipment and repairs, while a managed plan focuses on people and prevention. Managed plans are normally priced per user per month and include continuous monitoring, patching, security tools, and a help desk. For a business that works mostly in cloud apps and on laptops, the per-user model often fits better.

Before signing an AMC, check whether it is labor-only or comprehensive, how many visits and call-outs are included, what the response time is, and whether monitoring, backups, and security are covered at all. Ask what happens when staff numbers change mid-year. We offer per-user managed IT as an alternative to a traditional AMC.
