# CRM (customer relationship management)

> A CRM (customer relationship management) system is software that stores every contact, company, deal, and interaction in one place, so a business can track leads and customers from first inquiry through to sale and beyond.

Also called: customer relationship management, CRM software, CRM system, sales CRM.

A CRM holds a record for each person and company, with the emails, calls, notes, and tasks attached to it. Open opportunities move through a pipeline of stages, such as new, contacted, quoted, won, or lost. Most systems connect to email, calendars, web forms, and phone systems so activity is logged automatically, and they include reports and automation for reminders and follow-up messages.

Without a CRM, customer knowledge lives in inboxes, spreadsheets, and people's heads, and it leaves when they do. A shared record means anyone can pick up a conversation, follow-ups are not forgotten, and the owner can see how many leads came in, where they came from, and how many turned into sales. That visibility is usually the main gain for a small business.

A CRM only works if the team uses it, so choose one that fits how you sell and keep required fields to a minimum. Clean the data before importing it, agree on what each pipeline stage means, and automate data entry wherever possible. A CRM holds personal data, so set access levels and retention rules. Avoid paying for features nobody will use. We set up and customize CRMs and connect them to lead sources.
